Welcome to my site!

The purpose of this site is to share some of my life, music and ideas with whoever may be interested.

About me

Hi, my name is Jack Van Pelt and below is a very short autobiography of my life.

I was born in a small, industrial town in Ohio called Lima (pronounced like the bean). I was the middle of three sons and went to Catholic school until high school when the family moved to Shawnee township (like a suburb of Lima) where I attended Shawnee high school. After high school I went to Ohio State University in Columbus, Ohio. Dropped out of college to move to Cleveland, Ohio to pursue music. Played in a rock group called "The Scruffy Group" in and around Cleveland for about 3 years. In and out of college and bands for about another 5 years. Moved to a commune in Felton, California for 6 months  and then a woman I had met in Cleveland and had been dating, flew out to bring me "home". On the trip home, in Reno, Nevada, I asked Toni for her hand in marriage. Got married in "The Old Stone Church" in downtown Cleveland and moved to Washington, D.C. for a year. Moved to Seminole, Florida and still there. Raised a daughter, Margo, along the way.

Told you it would be short....

About this site

This is my first attempt at home recording and found it a lot like playing the guitar, easy to do but hard to do well. I started initially playing rhythmn and singing the lead part onto one track, then adding a second track singing the harmony while playing the lead parts. My first recordings were recorded to a Yamaha MD8 but once I installed a Delta 1010LT card, I started recording everything to my computer using Cakewalk Sonar producer software. In some of the later songs I added bass guitar and drums but I'm finding that I really like the "live" sound of just guitars and vocals.

This site is a work in progress and I will continue to add songs and other content as I get time.
